You may remember an older post related to Tylenol’s serious health effects in children: Tylenol’s Dark Side. Now a new study has revealed that mothers who consumed acetaminophen (Tylenol) during pregnancy have a greater risk of their children being diagnosed with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and requiring ADHD medications later on in life.
A couple of years ago researchers linked acetaminophen to the upsurge in pediatric asthma diagnoses since the 1980s, when Tylenol began to be used more frequently (in place of aspirin). A significant danger of Tylenol is that even a single dose significantly decreases glutathione, the master antioxidant in the body, and this may be what mediates the risks associated with its use. There’s also evidence that Tylenol may blunt the immune system’s ability to create an adequate response to vaccines.
With the sum of these ongoing studies, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to overlook the potential effects Tylenol can have on your child’s overall development and health – both before and after birth.
